This unique region lies north of the main Himalayan chain, bordered by snow-capped mountains and Tibet. Upper Mustang Trekking offers a journey through a high-altitude desert with passes above 4600m. Villages dot the valleys between 3300m and 4000m. The Upper Mustang Trekking route reveals important historical sites, including an 800-year-old cave with religious carvings. Once a crucial salt trading post in the Trans-Himalayan belt, Upper Mustang Trekking allows you to follow ancient yak caravan routes. The trek typically ends in Kagbeni, from where you return to Jomsom for a flight back to Pokhara\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n<p class=\"x_958744884p4\"><span class=\"x_1732019206colour\"><span class=\"x_1732019206size\"><b><span class=\"x_1732019206font\">Permits &amp; Regulations<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"x_958744884p1\"><span class=\"x_1732019206colour\"><span class=\"x_1732019206size\"><span class=\"x_1732019206font\">All trekkers heading into Upper Mustang (north of Kagbeni) are required to purchase a\u00a0<\/span><b><span class=\"x_1732019206font\">$500 per person<\/span><\/b><span class=\"x_1732019206font\">\u00a0permit, which is valid for 10 days. You can stay longer, but every day after that will cost $50. At Kagbeni, you'll be required to show your permit both on the way and the way out.
